The cone fid allows for remote release of the T30 Snap and trigger shackles.
Usually, a pull-rope lanyard is placed thru the center hole of the fid, and when a knot is tied to the large end if the fid, the knot is then pushed into the recessed area of the fid, to accommodate and to secure the knot.
