In 1929 Amandus Kolstrand, a fisherman, saw the need for power equipment and fishing gear improvements. He designed and manufactured the power salmon trolling gurdy, shock asorger, trolling block, line snap and snubbers for the salmon trolling industry.

In 1942 Arnold Breiwick and his father, Thomas Breiwick, themselves high-line fishermen, purchased Kolstrand and formed the foundation for what is now one of the foremost companies to manufacture and distribute commerical fishing equipment and hardware.
